It is one of Malaysia's oldest cities. Unlike Malacca, Klang's history goes back a lot farther than that of the city. Inhabitants have been in the area for more than two millennia Nearly 600 years have passed since the first written account of Klang was composed . For a long time, Langat was the name given to Klang. It was located where Bandar Temasiya and Jugla are today.. Bugis who travelled from Johor to trade with Malacca are thought to have created Langat in the 18th century. Klang, Malaysia's royal town, has a long history of human settlement. A busy commercial city and well-known for its high quality tin were already established in Klang by 1400, while Malacca was still simply a fishing town. Klang River was a hotbed of tin mining for centuries. The town started out as a residence for Malay chiefs who controlled the trade in minerals and forest products. A navigator who accompanied Chinese Admiral Cheng Ho to Malacca between 1409 and 1433 mapped the Klang River and gave it its name on the first maps he produced, which are still in existence. Shah Alam took over as state capital in 1977 when Klang was dethroned.
Tulang mawas ("ape bones"), iron implements and a bronze drum indicated its strategic significance. Since it serves tools for battle, it was a key strategic location. Klang was then known as a tin-producing region.. When the Portuguese seized Malacca, they were producing 100 bars of tin per year, according to Malayo-Portuguese explorer and geographer Manuel Godin de Eredia..

During the Malacca Sulutanate's reign, Klang was under the authority of Malacca. It was thus decided to appoint the Klang-born Tun Perak as a ruler. By the year 1511, Portugal conquered Malacca. ' The Sultan of Johor-Riau reigned over Klang after the Portuguese conquered Malacca in the 15th century.

They started to settle in coastal parts of Selangor, particularly Klang, in the early 17th century.

Demand for tin mining from Europe and the United States boosted Klang's prominence in the 18th century. The Klang War (also known as the Selangor Civil War) erupted between 1867 and 1874 as a result of a disagreement over lord's rights in Selangor.
In 1868, the capital of Selangor was chosen as the new site of government during the war. As Klang was being ruled over by the Selangor Sultanate at the same period, Since 1874, Selangor has been welcoming British migrants. The result of this was that from 1875 to 1880, Klang served as the official capital of the British colonies . When Klang Valley Rail Way was completed in 1886, and linked to Klang by Connaught Bridge, the significance of Klang was increased. It became the primary source of coffee in the area in the late 1890s. Once renowned as a coffee-producing region, it switched to rubber production in the 1890s when the price of coffee dropped. Local plantations were torn up and new rubber trees were planted.

In the following years, it grew to become a leading producer of rubber. With this newfound momentum, it continued to soar to even greater heights.
